Has Johnny Depp seen his last pirate ship?

The movie star has reportedly been dropped from Disney’s popular “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise.

The actor, who grew up in Miramar, had a starring role as the flamboyant Captain Jack Sparrow in five of the blockbuster pirate films since 2003.

But original “Pirates” script writer Stuart Beattie confirmed to The Daily Mail that Disney Studios is rebooting the franchise – without Depp.

“I think he’s had a great run. Obviously, he’s made that character his own and it’s become the character he’s most famous for now,’’ Beattie told the British publication at a red carpet event in Hollywood, California, last week when asked if Depp would be part of the franchise.

Beattie went on to praise Depp’s contribution to the action adventure movies which launched with “The Curse of the Black Pearl.” The last movie, “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” was released in 2017.

“I think Jack Sparrow will be his legacy. It’s the only character he’s played five times, it’s the character he dresses up in to visit children in hospitals, it’s what he’ll be remembered for,’’ Beattie added.

Depp is also known for other movie roles including “Edward Scissorhands’’ and for playing Boston mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger in the movie “Black Mass.” Depp has been in the news in recent years for his reported personal and financial problems including domestic abuse allegations from his ex-wife Amber Heard, which he denied.

Although Beattie developed the characters for the Disney movie, he said he has not been asked to work on the next installment.

“That would be great. I would love to. I mean, I love that world and love the people that make those films so yeah, I would love to be involved,’’ he told The Daily Mail.

According to IMDB.com, the working title for the next film is “Pirates of the Caribbean 6” which is in development. The director attached is Joachim Rønning. No production, cast or release date have been announced.
