Sea of Thieves, the new pirate-inspired game from Rare, is finally being released tomorrow but until then, there’s one final obstacle in the way.

Ahead of the release of the PC and Xbox game, Xbox and Rare have launched an online global treasure hunt taking place across six countries – the UK, US, Australia, France, Germany, and Canada.

The treasure hunt launched this morning with a riddle on The Quest’s website.

Teams of up to four people taking part now have three days to solve a total of 15 riddles. It will finish on Wednesday March 21st at 9pm GMT.

Following this first round of riddles, the winning team from each country will go on to solve one final riddle to win the treasure.

So what’s the prize? A bunch of golden bananas, worth a total of £80,000.

The Sea of Thieves global quest

In the new Sea of Thieves game, bananas are the health source, yet these golden bananas are intended to boost your wealth. The bananas were crafted by world famous goldsmiths Smith & Harris, in London’s jewellery quarter Hatton Garden.

According to the National Association of Jewellers, Institute of Registered Valuer, the bananas are: “a very unusual commission, something that both Smith and Harris are accustomed to undertaking, given their history in the manufacturing of unique pieces, traditional and contemporary art.

“A Caribbean pirate treasure; old bananas hand-fabricated from sheet gold, using skills both ancient and modern.

“Due to this level of craftsmanship involved and the uniqueness of the golden bananas, we expect them to be valued at Facsimile Value of at least £20,000 per banana.”
