Manchester United will have to pay a fee of between €60-70 million (£50.2m-£58.5m) for Viktor Gyokeres this summer, due to a reported agreement between the player and his current club Sporting CP.

United have been heavily linked with the striker since the arrival of Ruben Amorim. The two worked together during the manager’s time at Sporting, with reports this week claiming that the United boss is ‘pushing’ for the transfer.

It’s been reported for a while that Gyokeres has a €100 million (£83.6m) release clause in his contract, but could be available for a reduced price in the summer transfer window. That has now been confirmed again by Sky Germany’s Florien Plettenberg.

He reports that there is a verbal agreement between the 26-year-old and Sporting that will allow him to leave for €60-70 million (£50.2m-£58.5m) in the summer transfer window.

The reporter also shuts doen surprise links with Champions League chasing Nottingham Forest, saying that he will not join the East Midlands club.

Gyokeres has scored 40 times in 41 appearances for Sporting so far this season. His last four league appearances have seen him score six goals and provide one assist.

The striker is set to play for Sweden when they take on Northern Ireland in a friendly on Tuesday night. Ahead of that game, his international manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has backed Gyokeres to be successful in the Premier League should he make the move this summer.

“Gyokeres would be fantastic in the Premier League,” he said. “He could play for any club in the world and he would score a lot of goals anywhere.

"Him and [Alexander] Isak are two quite different players, but they’re both world-class strikers.”
