3,500 visit navy ship in S'kan

Kota Kinabalu: Some 3,500 people here were given the chance to experience being abroad the Navy ship, KD Sri Indera Sakti (KD SIS), Sunday.Arriving at Sandakan port at 9am, the biggest ship in the Malaysian fleet was opened to the public from noon until 6pm. It was organised by the Sandakan Regional Headquarters II.The Multi-Purpose Command Support Ship (MPCSS) weighs 4,450 tonnes and has the capacity to load 16 heavy military vehicles and started serving the fleet since Oct 24, 1980. According to KD SIS Commanding Officer Commander Mohama Sham Saimon, the vessel is currently carrying out logistics delivery from Lumut, Perak and will be stop by Tawau before sailing to Bintulu and Kuching in Sarawak.Also present during the get-together programme was Karamunting Assemblyman who is also part of the Naval Volunteer Reserve Lieutenant Commander Datuk Charles O Pang. – Mardinah Jikur
