Go: Pirates in the Plaza, Vintage treasures, all things Italy

1. Sea shanties

Grab your captain’s hat and set sail to Washougal for Pirates in the Plaza, an evening of entertainment, treasure and grog. There will be music by Bilge Rats & Pyrettes, along with entertainment by the Renegade Rose Dancers, juggler Curtis Carlyle, the Jamba African Marimba Band, Eartha the Clown and the Daley Dance Academy. Pirate costumes are encouraged, with prizes for the best costume in each of three ages groups. There will be a “grog garden” featuring drinks by Washougal breweries, kid-friendly activities and even some sword-fighting. The event will be 4 to 10 p.m. Aug. 26 in Reflection Plaza, 1703 Main St. Admission is free. Bring some “booty” to donate, as the event is a benefit for the Inter-Faith Treasure House and its Backpack Home program. 2. Vintage treasure

The annual Camas Vintage and Art Faire will feature more than 60 vendors with vintage, antique and upcycled items, along with artists for an eclectic mix from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 26 along Northeast Fourth Avenue and Birch Street in downtown Camas. Visitors can look for treasure from vendors offering up everything from indoor and outdoor furniture to clothing and accessories. 3. Park service’s anniversary

To celebrate 101 years of the National Park Service, activities and guided tours will be offered at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, 1001 E. Fifth St., Vancouver. Children ages 6 to 12 can explore local history during two Junior Ranger Day events: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 25 at the reconstructed fur trading post and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 26 at Pearson Air Museum. For adults, there will be an ethnobotany walking tour along the Confluence Land Bridge, highlighting native plants and their uses and significance to Chinookan culture, from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 26, starting at the Old Apple Tree Park. Bob Cromwell will give a presentation at 3 p.m. Aug. 26 about the history and development of the DH-4 Liberty plane, including a tour of the newly restored aircraft at Pearson Air Museum. The programs are free; entrance fees to the reconstructed fort will be waived Aug. 25. 4. Italy in Portland

The 26th annual Festa Italiana Portland celebrates Italian American culture with Italian food, music, dancing, wine and beer gardens from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Aug. 25 and 26 at Pioneer Courthouse Square, 701 S.W. Sixth Ave., Portland. There will be performances by Italian musicians, dancing, marionette shows, activities for children, a food court and vendors. Admission is free. www.festa-italiana.org

5. Fly a kite

The Washington State International Kite Festival on the Long Beach Peninsula will feature a variety of kite demonstrations, competitions, kite crafting and activities starting at 10 a.m. Aug. 25-27. Events include nighttime lighted-kite flying, a kite ballet, Rokkaku kite challenge, aerobatic sport kites, and trick and indoor kite flying. There will be an exhibit with more than 200 kites on display at the World Kite Museum, 303 Sid Snyder Drive, Long Beach.
